The February Lights of Christmas

Christmas Eve in Sydney, Australia...
We had to search out experiences that made us feel like it was Christmas.
So, the Lights of Christmas playing out across the massive cathedral of St. Mary's did the trick.

The colors and images you are about to see are projected (with music) across the surface of the cathedral to spectacular effect.

Before, people exiting mass in the late afternoon light... before the Exodus of Bats.

A girl's choir singing up-tempo holiday songs.

And then as dusk set, the 10 minute light & music show began....

... and the Exodus of Bats from The Royal Botanic Gardens showed up  (not kidding)

The Sydney residents paid them no attention, they just continued to enjoy the beautiful show as thousands (not kidding) of bats flew over head for 30 minutes straight.

It was such a spectacular light show, we stayed for the repeat showing...

and watched as the colors took on a whole new life against a much darker sky....

I love the one above... kinda surreal.

Must have moved the camera slightly, but the effect was ethereal and lovely.

Note the photo below... the accenting of each little architectural embellishment with amazing precision. I've seen my share of light and music shows, having spent 14 years next door to the D*sney parks.... this was simply impressive.

It did the trick. We felt quite Christmassy afterwards.
More photos from Australia coming soon... including Smedley's Adventures on the Great Ocean Road and a tour of The Opera House.
